2. A deputy sheriff fatally shot a man who fired a gun into the air and into the ground during a standoff in Presque Isle Thursday. The AG’s office says the shooting is still under investigation. (WGME)
3. A flash flood watch is in effect for much of Maine, with Tropical Storm Elsa dumping much-needed, heavy rain on today. Much of Maine can expect one to three inches of rain from Elsa. The highest amounts will be along the coast. (WMTW)
4. Some Portland residents are experiencing sticker shock after the city mailed new property tax bills following the first citywide revaluation in 15 years. 44% of property owners saw their bills higher. (WMTW)
5. According to State Records there are more than 100,000 vanity plates registered in Maine. Secretary of State Shenna Bellows estimates as many as 1,000 of them could violate a new state statute, which outlaws profane or obscene plates. At least 40 use the F-word. (WGME)
