1. According to the U.S. CDC tracker map Cumberland, Kennebec, York, and Lincoln counties are now listed as having “substantial” COVID transmission. The U.S. CDC is recommending people indoors in those areas wear masks. (WGME)

2. The University of Maine system is now requiring students to be vaccinated to attend in-person classes this fall. Requirement plans were sped up after growing concerns stemming from the Delta variant. (WGME)

3. The U.S. is planning to require Covid-19 shots for foreign travelers. This is part of the administration’s phased approach to easing travel restrictions for foreign citizens to the country. (NEWS CENTER)

4. The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Eagle, also known as “America’s Tall Ship,” will be visiting Portland this weekend for the Maine Bicentennial. Free public tours will be offered on Saturday and Sunday. (WGME)

5. The U.S. Men’s basketball team will compete for the Olympic gold medal on Saturday (Friday night in the States). Team USA defeated Australia in the Olympic semifinal on Thursday 97-78. They will face the winner France & Slovenia. (ESPN)
