1. The Maine CDC reported just 13 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday. Fewer than 50 new cases have been reported to the Maine CDC for the past seven days. There were two additional deaths reported Wednesday. To date, Maine CDC has reported 856 COVID-related deaths. (PRESS HERALD)
2. There have been four cases of the Delta variant detected in Maine. According to Dr. Shah this is “almost certainly an undercount.” In a little more than a month, the delta variant went from accounting for just 1 percent of new infections to more than 20 percent in the U.S., according to federal data. 3. The Supreme Court ruled that a high school cheerleader can not be punished for posting profanities on social media while not on school grounds. (CNN)
4. The Boston Celtics have hired Brooklyn Nets assistant Ime Udoka to be their new coach. Udoka, 43, played a total of 316 games over seven seasons with five NBA teams before retiring in 2012 and joining Gregg Popovich’s staff in San Antonio as an assistant coach. (PRESS HERALD)
5. Today is the grand opening for the new Children’s Museum and Theatre of Maine at Thompson’s Point in Portland. The new children’s museum is about double what their old space on Free Street was, and the outside play space is about 5x bigger. (WGME)
