1. Yesterday marked 1 year since the murder of George Floyd. More than 100 people gathered on Congress Street with a backdrop of “Counting from 13.” Demonstrators remembered him through poem, song, prayer and calls to action. (WGME)
2. The U.S. tops 33.1 million covid-19 cases with more than 590,000 related deaths. The Maine CDC reported 2 new deaths and 61 new cases on Tuesday (the fewest new daily cases since late October) bringing Maine’s death toll to 824 with 117 Mainers hospitalized. More than 50% of Mainers are fully vaccinated. (WMTW)
3. A few of Maine’s biggest stores have changed their mask rules. You won’t be required to wear a mask in Hannaford, Shaw’s, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, Walmart, Sam’s Club, Target, and Planet Fitness, so long as you’re fully vaccinated. (WGME)
4. According to an assessment by Maine’s Bureau of Air Quality “Climate change is lengthening the ‘pollen/mold season’ in Maine, resulting in increased exposure” and “more frequent allergic reaction episodes amongst those afflicted with respiratory disease.” (SUN JOURNAL)
