1. President Biden announced yesterday that ISIS leader Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi blew himself up as U.S. special forces conducted a pre-dawn raid against him in northern Syria. al-Qurayshi detonated a significant blast killing himself and several others, including his wife and children. All Americans returned safely from the operation.
2. Maine CDC Director, Dr. Shah, opposed the legalization of psilocybin mushrooms for depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder treatment. Dr. Shah issued a written testimony urging lawmakers to wait until clinical guidelines are established and for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to give psilocybin full approval as a treatment. Shah also cited concerns about oversight, which could allow psilocybin treatment centers to “function more like recreational use facilities rather than medical treatment facilities.”
3. Mississippi is now the 37th state to legalize medical marijuana. Governor Tate Reeves signed the bill into law saying, “There is no doubt that there are individuals in our state who could do significantly better if they had access to medically prescribed doses of cannabis.”
4. After 87 years with its former name and two years as the Washington Football Team, the franchise announced Wednesday morning that its new name would be the Commanders. The team also unveiled its new logo and uniforms. The colors will remain burgundy and gold, but with some upgrades.
5. A rare football card featuring Tom Brady in the year he won his first Super Bowl sold for $118,000 at auction in Scarborough, Maine earlier this week. The 2002 Topps Finest X-Fractor card was one of only 20 featuring Brady. The winning bidder was identified only as a Brady fan from New England.
