1. Iran says its military ‘unintentionally’ shot down the Ukrainian plane. President of Iran said his country “deeply regrets this disastrous mistake.” Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau issued a statement saying his government’s focus remains “closure, accountability, transparency and justice” for the families of those killed. 2. As Australia’s bushfires continue, degraded air quality is posing a threat even in areas that were spared the flames. Distress calls and hospital emergency room visits have surged because of the smoke. Emergency room physician David Caldicott says the past weeks have been “sort of like medicine meets Mad Max.” Researchers say that wildfire smoke that lingers for weeks doesn’t just get into your pores: it also gets into your brain. 3. Jesse “The Viking” Erickson has survived more than 30 Maine winters and whole bunch of professional fights. Jesse Erickson of Auburn faces off in a tug-of-war with a grizzly bear named Bart, who is also known as “The King of the Mountain,” on the new Discovery Channel show “Man vs. Bear.” (WGME)

4. Actor Greg Finley of Scarborough and cinematographer Edwin Stevens of Kennebunk have teamed up on the independent movie ‘Summer Someday,’ which started filming Sunday in Portland. The film focuses on a lobsterman and former boxer, played by Finley, dealing with his past, crime and corruption. (PRESS HERALD)

5. Hot 104.7 has completed a full rebrand which launched this morning at 7:00am as Hot Radio Maine. In addition to the new branding and broadcasting to southern Maine on 104.7, the station has now launched on 100.3 FM in Lewiston/Auburn and Brunswick and 102.9 FM in the Bangor/Brewer metro. (WABI)
