1. You now have to be 21 years old to buy tobacco in Maine. One year ago, Maine became the fourth state in the nation to raise the tobacco sales age from 18 to 21. The law, which passed by more than a two-thirds majority vote in the legislature to override the governor’s veto, takes effect today. It also applies to electronic cigarettes.

2. Members of Maine’ Somali youth network hosted their first annual Somali independence day celebration Sunday. The Somali Republic was formed on July 1st, 1960. There are an average of ten-thousand Somalis living primarily in Lewiston and the greater Portland area. The members of the Youth Network hope that this, the First Annual Maine Somali Independence Day will continue on, year after year.

3. A man is facing charges after stopping his car in Scarborough in the median of the Maine Turnpike and throwing rocks at moving cars on Sunday. As police arrived at the scene, a group of motorists pinned down 42-year old David Mullen, who told state police that he was taking drugs including “Molly,” which is a form of ecstasy. Mullen is charged with criminal mischief and could face additional charges.

4. For the second time in his career, LeBron James has left the Cleveland Cavaliers in free agency. On Sunday, it was announced that King James had signed a four-year, $153.3 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. James already owns two homes in the L.A. area.
