1. On Saturday, the Italian Prime Minister announced the country would shut down all non-essential businesses and factories due to the coronavirus until April 3. Italians were also banned from moving across municipalities. Those going out will be subjected to fines and other consequences. On Saturday, 793 people died in Italy, more in one day than any other nation in the world. An additional 651 people died on Sunday, and over 5,400 people in total. (THE GUARDIAN)

2. Democrats blocked a $1.8 trillion coronavirus stimulus bill Sunday in the Senate because they felt it was tilted in favor of corporations and did not do enough to shore up the healthcare system and help average Americans. Negotiations continued and the White House has expressed hope that a bill could be signed into law today. (PRESS HERALD)

3. There are now 89 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Maine as of Sunday, according to the director of the Maine CDC. Out of those 89 people, 8 of them are hospitalized and 3 have recovered. Cumberland County has the most cases, with 53. (BANGOR DAILY NEWS)

4. Bangor on Sunday evening expanded its coronavirus-related emergency regulation. “No auditorium, stadium, arena, large conference room, meeting hall, theater, gymnasium, fitness center, private club, movie theater, museum, dance club, music venue, adult entertainment facility, casino, gymnasium, fitness center, yoga studio, or indoor cycling studio is allowed to be open while the city’s state of emergency remains in effect.” Restaurants are no longer allowed to have customers enter establishments. 5. The U.S. is extending the tax payment deadline an extra 90 days beyond April 15. Taxpayers will not get charged interest in penalties during this extension. This extension was made in an effort to curb the economic impact of the coronavirus. (LA TIMES)
