1. The retirement of Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy wasn’t a total surprise, but it still sent shock waves through Washington and the country. Kennedy, the court’s crucial swing vote for years, personally delivered his resignation letter to President Trump at the White House. His retirement means huge changes could be coming on hot-button issues: abortion, same-sex marriage and affirmative action. The President was downright giddy at the prospect of not only making his second Supreme Court pick in less than two years but also at the dream scenario it presents for him and the GOP: installing a consistently conservative court that can influence American law, life and culture for generations. 2. A 95-year-old man used a broken plank to fend off a rabid fox on Monday. Robert Galen is the third person in Brunswick to grapple with a rabid fox in the last 10 days. Two residents were attacked on June 17. That fox was killed by a police officer. (Press Herald)

3. South Korea’s 2-0 victory over 2014 winners Germany on Wednesday – a major upset secured in stoppage time – ensured Mexico progress to the knockout stage of the World Cup despite being thrashed by Sweden in their final group game. Large crowds celebrated Mexico’s progression at the South Korean embassy in Mexico City, chanting that Koreans were their “brothers”. Images of hybrid South Korea-Mexico flags, tweeted statements of friendship and gratitude, and even vows from fans to begin listening to K-Pop were posted online by droves of Mexico supporters. 4. Anyone who’s watched Seinfeld surely remembers the 1997 episode in which Elaine concocts her “million-dollar idea” to just sell muffin tops, sans the bottoms. McDonald’s remembers this episode and thinks it’s a good idea, too, because they’ve just announced the addition of muffin toppers to their all-day breakfast menu. (NY Daily News)
