1. The Pentagon released footage of Tuesday’s encounter between a U.S. surveillance drone and a Russian fighter jet.  The U.S. military ditched the drone in the sea after the jet poured fuel on it, in an apparent attempt to blind its optical instruments and drive it out of the area. (PH)

2. Lawmakers are backing tougher penalties for fake threats that trigger lockdowns in response to fake reports of active shooters at 10 high schools across the state last fall. A new bill would make violations punishable by up to five years in jail and a $20,000 fine. Currently, making false reports is punishable by up to a year in jail and a $2,500 fine. (PH)

3. Maine is one of two states that doesn’t allow hunting on Sundays. Maine Hunters United for Sunday Hunting are supporting a bill that would allow Mainers to hunt on Sundays with a bow or crossbow.  (WMTW)

4. Mackenzie Holmes, the Gorham native playing basketball for Indiana was named first-team All-America.The Hoosiers won the Big Ten regular-season title. Holmes averaged 22.3 points, 7.3 rebounds and shot 68.8% from the field. (PH)

5. Maine Catholics are getting a pass to eat meat this Friday. In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, Bishop Robert Deeley is authorizing those who choose to eat meat on Friday to instead abstain from meat on another day this week. (WGME)
