  1. The Republican party will have control of the House of Representatives. Eight days after election day, outlets have predicted that the GOP had the 218 seats needed for a majority. Kevin McCarthy will become the new Speaker of the House. (CNN


  1. In the final ranked-choice voting tally, U.S. Rep. Jared Golden won reelection with 54% of the vote. “I am deeply honored that the people of Maine’s Second District have chosen me to represent them in Washington for another two-year term,” Golden said. (PH)

The Maine Public Utilities Commission has approved bids for CMP and Versant that will raise electricity rates for most Mainers in 2023.  CMP customers will see an increase of roughly $32 per month. That’s a 49% increase in the cost of electric supply. Versant customers will see rates go up around 34%. (WMTW)
