1. Central Maine Power Co. has launched a TV ad campaign in an attempt to revive a reputation tarnished by customer outrage over high bills, a potential class-action lawsuit and a state investigation of its billing and metering practices. In 30- and 60-second spots that started airing Monday on stations in Maine, CMP President and CEO Doug Herling apologizes to customers for problems the company has been dealing with for most of this year. 2. Marine mammal experts are at a loss to explain why a large number of harbor seals have turned up dead on beaches in southern Maine this summer. The most recent cluster of deaths was reported Monday when the carcasses of 11 harbor seals, mostly pups, were discovered on Bayview and Kinney Shores beaches in Saco. In the past two days, more than 30 dead harbor seals have washed ashore on southern Maine beaches. The cause of the current die-off could be connected to a flu outbreak. Another possibility is a shortage of the fish, shellfish and crustaceans that harbor seals feed on. (PressHerald)

3. Motorists are being advised by the Portland Water District to avoid using the intersection of Highland Avenue and Cottage Road in South Portland. Michelle Clements, the water district’s spokeswoman, said crews are scheduled to spend most of the day today repairing the water main system. Repairs will begin at 6 a.m. and won’t be finished until 6 p.m. The busy intersection is near Red’s Dairy Freeze. (PressHerald)

4. 14 year old, Ethan Sonneborn, is too young to vote but that’s not stopping him from running for governor. In the Vermont, constitution, there is no age restriction for a person seeking the state’s highest office. “I think Vermonters should take me seriously because I have practical progressive ideas, and I happen to be 14, not the other way around,” Sonneborn said in a recent televised forum. “I think that my message and my platform transcend age.” (APNews)
