1. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi arrived in Taiwan late Tuesday, becoming the highest-ranking U.S. official in 25 years to visit. Her visit has increased tension between China and the United States because China claims Taiwan as part of its territory.

2. Anthem insurance and MaineHealth say they are starting to make progress in a dispute over reimbursements. MaineHealth has threatened to pull Maine Medical Center in Portland from Anthem’s network in January unless they reach an agreement.

3. One of America’s treasures has passed away. Vin Scully, the longtime voice of the Los Angeles Dodgers, died on Tuesday at the age of 94. Scully served as the lead broadcaster for the Dodgers for 67 years. He moved with the team from Brooklyn to Los Angeles. His stint is the longest one broadcaster has stayed with one team. Scully also was a voice on the national level. For many years he was a play-by-play commentator on NFL and Major League Baseball games. Some of Scully’s legendary calls include Bill Buckner’s Error, Game 6 of the 1986 World Series and Kirk Gibson’s miraculous game-winning home run for the Dodgers in the 1988 World Series.

4. Maine’s new sports betting law will go into effect Monday, but it will be at least eight months – and possibly much longer – before anyone can place a wager.

5. The Maine Lobster Festival kicks off today in Rockland. The festival is a five-day event that attracts tens of thousands of visitors for fresh lobster dinners, cooking contests, the Maine Sea Goddess Coronation and more.
