  1. The US Senate voted to pass the Respect for Marriage Act yesterday. The bill was in response to concerns that the Supreme Court’s conservative majority might threaten the unions of same-sex and interracial marriages. Passage in the House is expected, and President Joe Biden plans to sign the bill into law. (USA


  1. In favor of CMP, The Maine Supreme Judicial Court ruled that a Citizen’s Initiative cannot retroactively invalidate the lease granted to NECEC. The decision removes an obstacle to a possible revival of the dormant Power Corridor project. (WMTW)


  1. Maine BMVs were open by appointment only yesterday following a ‘serious threat’ that may have come from an “aggrieved customer.” All branches will reopen for walk-in visits today. (WMTW)


  1. MaineHousing is launching an online portal for the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP).  It will allow people to start the application process remotely.  People can also check if they are income eligible before applying. (WGME)


  1. In a win-or-go-home situation on Tuesday at the World Cup the U.S. men’s soccer team defeated Iran 1-0 in Qatar. Christian Pulisic scored the only goal in the 38th minute.  The U.S. advances out of group play and moves on to the knockout round of 16. They’ll face the Netherlands on Saturday. (NBC)
