1. On Tuesday President Biden promised to pass a law to codify the right to abortion if Democrats win in the midterms. In order for such a bill to pass, Democrats would need to take a majority in both the Senate and House of Representatives. “The final say does not rest in the court now. It does not rest with extreme Republicans in Congress,” Biden said. “It rests with you.”

2. Jessica Trefethen of Stockton Springs has been found guilty of killing her 3-year-old son, Maddox. Maddox’s case files were one of four child deaths in the summer of 2021 the Government Oversight Committee subpoenaed DHHS. Committee members will decide whether to take the DHHS to court or not.

3. With just under three weeks to Election Day, Portland has had more than 10,000 requests for absentee ballots. The numbers are on track to beat 2018. Portland has a lot to vote on this November including 13 ballot questions.

4. Maine’s iconic whoopie pie is being called a “gateway food to obesity” by a new study. 30-percent of Mainers surveyed admit that eating just one sweet treat like a whoopie pie triggers a stretch of unhealthy eating.
