(#MaineMade) Local Hip Hop Scene Gives Back to the Community

MONDAY OF THE MINDS, run by local Hip Hop artists Stay On Mars and Smokeye, is a community hip hop showcase in Portland, Maine. The event is held every second and fourth Monday at Flask Lounge.

MOTM started a community outreach program this past summer in an effort clean up the park system and the local image of the hip hop culture in Portland. They strive to promote members of the hip hop community to become more involved with volunteering and creating opportunities for people to come together in positive ways.

The last cleanup of the season will be this Sunday, October 23rd, on the Eastern Promenade, with trash bags and gloves provided by the City of Portland. If you can’t make it out to help with the cleanup, MOTM also runs a school and food drive every second and fourth Monday in conjunction with the night at Flask Lounge.

The core founders of Monday of the Minds are currently traveling around New England performing at festivals and concerts all over the region, and recently played at the Fourth Annual Maine Hip Hop Summit in Congress Square this past summer.

The MOTM crew is certainly a very talented, motivated, passionate AND compassionate group of artists. Find out more about MOTM and the cleanup day on Sunday on their Facebook page.
