You owe me, my fans and the industry transparency…” Reports say that The Weeknd was invited to perform at the ceremony, but the Academy felt slighted because he will be doing the Super Bowl halftime show one week later. Academy president Harvey Mason, Jr. debunked that theory saying the nominations were in place before the Super Bowl announcement was made. Another theory is that voters were confused about where to put his “After Hours” album. Pop voters may have thought it belonged in the R&B category and vice versa.
