During his podcast on The Ringer Thursday morning, Vince Carter officially announced his retirement with the NBA after a league-record 22 seasons. The 43-year-old, who ranks 19th on the NBA’s all-time scoring list and will forever be regarded as one of the game’s greatest dunkers, said the abrupt ending to his final season was “tough” (the Hawks don’t have a good enough record to be among the teams resuming play next month), adding, “but with the coronavirus taking people’s lives rapidly, that’s the big picture in my mind.” As a testament to his unprecedented longevity, Carter was the NBA’s Rookie of the Year with the Raptors way back in 1999.
