1. On Thursday the Lewiston community is invited to Simard Payne Memorial Park to mark the six-month anniversary of the worst mass shooting in Maine history. Organizers said it will be an opportunity to honor and remember those lost and those who survived. People are encouraged to wear blue – a color that has united this city. 2. The Senate passed legislation Tuesday that would force TikTok’s China-based parent company to sell the social media platform under the threat of a ban. The bill now goes to President Biden, who has backed the TikTok proposal and has said he will sign the bill as soon as he gets it. ByteDance will have nine months to sell TikTok, and a possible three-month extension if a sale is in progress. (PH)
3. Hannaford Supermarkets announced Tuesday it has expanded a recall of some store-brand ground beef products due to possible E. coli contamination. The recall includes 80% and 85% Lean Ground Beef Sold from April 4-16 at Select Stores in Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. (NCM)
4. The world’s largest 3D printer is at UMaine. Then on Tuesday the University unveiled one that is four times larger! The printer’s frame fills up the large building in which it’s housed on the UMaine campus, and can print objects 96 feet long by 32 feet wide by 18 feet high. There’s a shortage of both affordable housing and workers to build homes. The university wants to show how homes can be constructed nearly entirely by a printer, with a lower carbon footprint. (PH)
5. Yesterday Amazon launched free delivery from Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods in 3,500 cities. “Free” delivery is relative. It will cost $10 a month on top of an Amazon Prime fee. Customers must order over $35 in items for the free delivery to kick in. Anyone using services like SNAP/EBT will pay $5 for the subscription. (CNET)
