1. Starting May 7, Mainers will need a Real ID, passport, or government-issued ID to fly. Long lines are forming at BMVs, with appointments booked into July. If you’re not flying soon and have valid ID, Secretary of State Shenna Bellows says there’s no rush. The state is adding staff to help with demand. (WGME)
2. The Longhorn Steakhouse near the Maine Mall reopens for dine-in today, four weeks after part of the ceiling collapsed. It’s been offering curbside pickup since the March 28 incident. The building is structurally sound and cleared for use, though some cosmetic repairs are still underway. (WMTW)
3. After more than 60 years in Portland, Tony’s Donut Shop is up for sale. The family-owned staple has been serving sweet treats since 1965, but rising costs and post-COVID challenges pushed the Fournier family to make the tough decision. Owner Michelle Goddard says the hope is to find a buyer who’ll keep the doughnuts—and staff—going. In the meantime, it’s business as usual, with a busy Mother’s Day weekend ahead. (WMTW)
4. The 2025 NFL Draft kicked off Thursday night. The Titans took Miami QB Cam Ward first overall. The Jaguars traded up to grab Heisman winner Travis Hunter. Surprising many, Shedeur Sanders slipped out of the first round. The Patriots used their top pick on LSU offensive tackle Will Campbell, a 6’6″, 325-pound anchor who started all 38 games of his college career and is expected to shore up the offensive line in front of QB Drake Maye. 5. Bangor’s The Nite Show is ending its run with a bang—landing late-night legend David Letterman as a guest for its final season. Host Dan Cashman, a longtime Letterman fan, started the show in 1997 and revived it in 2001. In 2010, he partnered with Husson University’s New England School of Communications to give the show a polished look. After nearly three decades, Cashman is stepping away to focus on family and work, but he’s closing out the nation’s only locally produced late-night show on a high note. (BDN)
