1. The Gulf of Maine had its fifth-warmest year on record last year. February, March and April all set new records for highest monthly sea surface temperature in the Gulf of Maine. The higher temperatures are bringing changes such as different species of fish getting caught in fishers’ nets. 2. Maine American Idol contestant Julia Gagnon is now in the top seven on American Idol after Monday night’s episode. During the show, fans voted for the top six performers, but the judges also saved one singer who was supposed to be eliminated. Julia will now compete for a spot in the top five Sunday night. (WMTW)
3. The Portland Jetport is anticipating a 17% passenger increase this summer. Service expansions by Breeze, Frontier and other airlines could push summer passenger numbers to 2 million. (PH)
4. A new survey found that 42% of Americans support a ban on TikTok. 23% are against the ban while 31% have no strong opinion on a ban either way. ByteDance has nine months to divest its platform from before a ban in the US. Insiders say ByteDance would rather see TikTok shut down than sell it. (NYP)
5. Travis Kelce has agreed to a 2-year contract extension with the Kansas City Chiefs. “We signed the greatest tight end ever to a new contract,” the team announced on Monday. Travis Kelce will reportedly make $34.25 million, making him the highest-paid player at his position. Meanwhile his brother Jason will join ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown when the NFL season kicks off this fall.
