1. The City of South Portland has released body and dash cam footage showing the mistaken detainment of a 16-year-old Deering High School student. Officers, searching for a burglary suspect, ordered the teen to the ground at gunpoint before realizing he wasn’t the suspect. The videos were made public “in the interest of transparency” after months of denied records requests. (WMTW)
2. The suspect in Thursday’s Chase Bank robbery in Westbrook has been arrested. Police say Jean Gendron of South Carolina was caught six hours later in Londonderry, New Hampshire, and will be extradited to Maine. It was the third bank robbery in Greater Portland in the past five days. (WMTW)
3. Instagram now lets you share your real-time location with friends on a map in DMs. Sharing is off by default, but you can turn it off anytime by going to DMs → tap the map → settings icon → location sharing preferences. (WMTW)
4. HBO Max is cracking down on password sharing. Starting in September, users flagged for sharing will get messages urging them to pay for their own subscription. The service has been testing ways to spot legitimate users. (BI)
