1. On Tuesday, Luigi Mangione was indicted by a New York grand jury on charges of murdering United HealthCare CEO Brian Thompson. Mangione is facing one count of first-degree murder in furtherance of terrorism and two counts of second-degree murder, with one seen as killing as an act of terrorism. If convicted, Mangione could spend life in jail without the possibility of parole. (CNBC)
2. Mysterious drone sightings have been the talk of the internet for the last week. White House national security spokesman John Kirby said Tuesday, “We continue to see nothing that indicates a public safety risk or national security risk.” There have been reports of drone sightings in Portland, Auburn, and the Waterville area. 3. On Tuesday, the Federal Trade Commission announced a new rule banning “junk fees” on hotel stays and live event tickets. The new rules make it illegal for vendors to hide prices until the checkout process. The rule says the total price needs to be presented “timely, transparent, and truthful.” (CBS)
4. The Milwaukee Bucks defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder in Las Vegas to win the second annual NBA Emirates Cup in-season tournament. The NBA also announced a new format for their All-Star weekend on Tuesday. The 24 All-Stars chosen will be split up into three teams of eight players. A fourth team will also compete, which will be the winning team from the Rising Stars Challenge, which follows a similar mini-tournament style. (ESPN)
5. Taco Bell, for the first time in its more than 60-year history, will debut its own Crispy Chicken Nuggets tomorrow. The taco chain’s nuggets are made with all-white chicken meat marinated in jalapeño buttermilk flavor and coated in a blend of crunchy tortilla chips and breadcrumbs. They come with three new sauces: Hidden Valley Fire Ranch, Jalapeño Honey Mustard and Bell Sauce, a creamy and tangy blend of tomato, garlic and chili spices. (ET)
