1. An argument inside the Kobe Steakhouse in South Portland led to a shooting incident at a nearby intersection Wednesday evening. It’s unclear how many shots were fired but the victim’s car was hit with bullets. Nobody inside or outside the car was injured. (WMTW)
2. Lewiston City Council has voted to make a four-day workweek permanent for its city hall employees. The schedule has city hall open Monday through Thursday from 7:45 a.m. to 4 p.m., with extended hours until 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. It will be closed on Fridays, a change intended to improve employee work-life balance. (NCM)
3. Portland’s last traditional cab company has operated without a license for several months. City officials said 207 Taxi’s annual license ran out at the end of April. But it continued to dispatch cabs to Portland International Jetport and other destinations in Greater Portland. After a Press Herald reporter contacted the company owner on Wednesday, he went to Portland City Hall and applied to license four taxis. The matter is considered resolved. (PH)
4. The University of Iowa will retire Caitlin Clark’s #22 Hawkeyes jersey on February 2nd. Caitlin says she is honored: “I’m forever proud to be a Hawkeye and Iowa holds a special place in my heart that is bigger than just basketball.” Clark is the NCAA’s all-time scorer. She was the no. 1 WNBA draft pick and plays for the Indiana Fever now. (ESPN)
5. The New York Times’ has released its list of the 26 best food dishes in the country for 2024. The Tuna de Tigre at Mr. Tuna in Portland, Maine was on the list. The Mushroom Breakfast Taco at Ocotillo, also located in Portland, also made the list. (NYT)
