1. U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi has warned Maine officials to stop allowing transgender athletes in women’s sports or face a federal lawsuit. In a letter to Gov. Janet Mills, Bondi said the DOJ is prepared to take legal action and cut federal funding to enforce President Trump’s recent gender policies. Maine’s Attorney General has joined a lawsuit challenging the administration’s efforts. (WMTW)

2. The first challengers for Susan Collins’ Senate seat in 2026 have been announced: Democrat Natasha Alcala of Madawaska, independent Phillip Rench of Waterboro, and Republican Daniel Smeriglio of Frenchville. Alcala says she’s running to secure more infrastructure funding, arguing current senators aren’t doing enough to maintain Maine’s cities and towns. (WGME)

3. A winter weather advisory is in effect from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Coastal areas can expect less than 2 inches of snow, while the rest of Maine will see 2 to 5 inches. (WMTW)

4. Rep. Joseph Underwood (R-Presque Isle) is sponsoring a bill to require cursive instruction for Maine elementary students in grades 3-5. A public hearing is set for Thursday. If passed, Maine would join 24 states already mandating cursive, up from just 14 a decade ago. (PH)

5. Starting in 2025, the NFL will replace traditional first down chains with the Hawk-Eye virtual measurement system. Officials will still spot the ball manually, but the electronic system will determine first downs. The chain crew will remain on the sideline as a backup. (FOX)
