1. Mainers will see a slight decrease in their paychecks as contributions begin for the state’s new Paid Family and Medical Leave program. The fund will eventually provide 12 weeks of paid leave for family-related events, such as the birth of a child or caring for a relative. 2. A Wind Advisory is in effect from 9 AM to 7 PM today for portions of Maine and New Hampshire. Gusts of up to 50 mph are expected. These strong winds could blow around unsecured objects, break tree limbs, and potentially cause isolated power outages. (WMTW)
3. Augusta, Lewiston, Portland and Bangor hospitals reported their first baby deliveries of 2025 yesterday. In Portland, MaineHealth welcomed Michael Nathan Mariato as its first baby of the year. He was born at 2:55 a.m. on Wednesday, weighing seven pounds and 12 ounces. (PH)
4. Apple TV+ is ringing in the New Year by offering an all-access pass for the first weekend of 2025 (January 3 through January 5). Apple TV+ will be free on any device where Apple TV+ is available. It’s the first time that Apple has offered something like this. (Apple)
5. Sabrina Carpenter has partnered with Dunkin’ for her own beverage, Sabrina’s Brown Sugar Shakin’ Espresso, available now!
