1. Police in Camden are investigating after 216 veteran grave markers were stolen from Mount View Cemetery. Some were found dumped nearby, but none of the flags or a large American flag taken from the site have been recovered. A GoFundMe has been launched to help replace the stolen markers. (WMTW)
2. A Bangor man caused a seven-hour standoff Wednesday after climbing onto a roof and claiming he was retrieving drugs from the chimney. Police say Stephen Nason used a ladder to access the roof, where he was spotted by the residents around 4 a.m. When firefighters arrived, they raised a rescue basket to the roof—with an ax secured inside. Nason jumped into the basket, grabbed the ax, and began chopping holes in the roof. He later surrendered and is now facing multiple charges. (WMTW)
3. Officials in Harpswell are warning beachgoers after two great white sharks were spotted near Bailey Island within 48 hours. Shark flags are now up at Cedar Beach, but the water remains open. The alert follows a recent underwater photo of a great white taken off Harpswell and Maine’s only deadly shark attack in 2020. (WMTW)
