1. Powerful storms slammed southern Maine on Sunday, ripping roofs off buildings and knocking trees onto homes and even a moving car. In Falmouth, fire crews responded to 13 calls, including one for a roof torn from a commercial building. In Gorham, a driver caught video of a roof flying off and nearly hitting their vehicle. (WMTW)
2. Tens of thousands packed downtown Yarmouth over the weekend for the 60th Clam Festival, enjoying iconic events and coastal charm. However, storms forced an early shutdown on Sunday. Organizers closed the carnival and other events just before 3 p.m. as lightning moved into the area, prompting staff to evacuate rides and open shelters. (WMTW)
3. A lion’s mane jellyfish, about the size of a car tire, was spotted near a Falmouth beach. Experts say warming ocean temps are bringing more to Maine. Officials warn not to touch them—even dead, they can still sting. (WGME)
4. More than 1,300 women raced for a cause at Sunday’s 18th annual Tri for a Cure, raising a record-breaking $2.1 million for the Maine Cancer Foundation. Prior to this year, the Tri for a Cure has raised more than $24 million for the Maine Cancer Foundation. (WGME)
5. Maine wildlife officials are celebrating a record 174 piping plover breeding pairs spotted in 2025—up from 157 last year. For context, back in the 1980s, there were fewer than 10 nesting pairs remaining in Maine as a whole. The endangered shorebird is now showing strong signs of recovery, with nearly 200 chicks hatched so far. (WGME)
