1. Portland Police notified the public about a “major incident” on the section of Forest Avenue between Bell Street and Morrill’s Corner shortly before 9:20 pm last night. At least three people were hospitalized after an apparent shooting. Authorities have not announced whether any arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. (WMTW)
2. The two tweens that escaped the Long Creek juvenile detention facility are both in custody. The 16-year-old suspect was arrested in Georgetown, MA following a single-vehicle crash involving a Porsche that had been stolen from Hampton, New Hampshire. 18-year-old Davyn Flynn, of Portland, Maine, was arrested in Biddeford after a hit-and-run crash involving a vehicle that had been reported stolen out of Scarborough earlier in the day. 3. Strong showing Tuesday for Team USA. Simone Biles helped the women’s gymnastics team capture the gold medal. Biles became the most decorated American gymnast in history with eight medals. The U.S. women’s rugby squad won the bronze medal. over Australia. The men’s soccer team advanced to the Olympic quarterfinals for the first time in 24 years. At the pool, the men’s 4 x 200 freestyle team won a silver medal, while Regan Smith and Katharine Berkoff won silver and bronze medals in the women’s 100-meter backstroke. Olympic medal tennis favorite CoCo Gauff exits in the 3rd round after a controversial call.
4. Boar’s Head has recalled seven million pounds of deli meat manufactured in its Virginia plant. The recall is the latest warning from the USDA after a recent nationwide listeria outbreak. The latest recall includes 71 products made between May 10th and July 29th. Boar’s Head originally recalled 200,000 pounds of deli meat, including liverwurst, ham, beef salami, and bologna. (AP)
