1. Maine college leaders say they fear for their ability to grow and maintain campus diversity after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that an applicant’s race cannot be considered a factor in admissions. Bates College President said the decision “undervalues the crucial role that higher education plays in building a healthy and informed democracy and providing individuals of all backgrounds with the opportunity to fulfill their human potential.” (PH)

2. The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office says it seized thousands of marijuana plants in a raid on an illegal grow operation in Carmel Thursday. More than 3,400 marijuana plants, along with another 111 pounds of processed marijuana, were seized. (WGME)

3. Governor Janet Mills said Thursday, saying she will back a new plan for paid family and medical leave in Maine. Max leave would be 12 weeks. There would at least be a 2 year grace period before this begins. (WGME)

4. Incoming UMaine freshman forward Bradly Nadeau, 18, was selected in the first round, 30th overall, by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2023 NHL draft. (PH)
