1. A bill to end the government shutdown could also end Maine’s booming hemp drink market. The proposal would close the “hemp loophole” that’s allowed THC-infused beverages to be sold in stores and restaurants. The change would redefine hemp to exclude intoxicating products — effectively banning drinks like Bissell Brothers’ Bissell Buds. Supporters say it levels the playing field with cannabis shops, while hemp producers warn it could devastate their industry. (PH)
2. Classes were canceled Wednesday at Saco Middle School after a water main break left the building without running water. District officials say maintenance crews are working with the local water department to make repairs and hope to reopen as soon as it’s safe. Families will get updates by text and email. (WMTW)
3. The northern lights lit up Maine’s sky again Tuesday night! After early clouds cleared, the aurora burst to life around 9 p.m., with vivid greens, pinks, and reds seen across western Maine — and even a couple of fireballs streaking through the sky. The colorful display stretched as far south as Georgia and as far west as California. (WMTW)
4. Saco Middle School gym teacher Ryan Martin just set his third Guinness World Record! He sank 1,516 high school three-pointers in one hour — hitting 90% of his shots. The whole school turned out to cheer him on as he shattered the old record and raised money for the athletic program. Next up, he’s going for most half-court shots in an hour! (WGME)
5. Starbucks is bringing back two holiday classics — the Eggnog Latte and Chestnut Praline Latte! The festive favorites return Dec. 2, along with a new Eggnog Cream Cold Foam and a holiday merch collab with Roller Rabbit. It’s the first time the Eggnog Latte’s been back since 2021 — though no word yet on the return of the viral Bearista cup. (People)
