1. Vice President Kamala Harris conceded the presidential election on Wednesday. Speaking from her alma mater, Howard University, Harris said, “Folks are feeling and experiencing a range of emotions right now, I get it. But we must accept the results of this election.” Harris added, “Earlier today I spoke with President-elect Trump and congratulated him on his victory. 2. A referendum to replace Maine’s official flag with a design from more than a hundred years ago was soundly defeated on Election Day. As of Wednesday afternoon, 55% of voters had opted for the current design, which features the Maine state seal on a blue background. (PH)
3. Democratic Congressman Jared Golden declared victory in Maine’s Second District Wednesday, although the race has not officially been called. His opponent, Republican Austin Theriault, says the race is still too close to call. (WGME)
4. Searches for terms such as “Hot to move to Canada” spiked by 5,000% in the 24 hours following the election results, according to Google Trends, with the highest interest in the neighboring states of Vermont, Maine and New Hampshire. (Newsweek)
