1. Maine U.S. Senate candidate Graham Platner is apologizing for a series of resurfaced Reddit posts in which he criticized police and called white rural Americans “racist and stupid.” Platner, a veteran and oyster farmer, says the comments were “stupid joke posts” made during a dark period in his life and don’t reflect who he is today. He’s running in the Democratic primary to challenge Senator Susan Collins. (PH)
2. Kennebunk police are searching for a man who took about $7,400 that fell off another driver’s car on Fletcher Street Wednesday night. Investigators say the cash came from a vehicle sale and was accidentally left on the car roof. The suspect, seen wearing a blue shirt and brown pants, was caught on dashcam picking up the money before driving off in a dark gray Honda CR-V. Police say this is theft, not “finders keepers.” (WMTW)
3. The Back Cove Music Festival could be returning for another three years. A city committee voted three to one to approve a new contract with organizers after concerns over revenue transparency and the long-term deal. The full council will take it up Monday. (WGME)
