1. Portland’s delayed Back Cove stormwater project is now set to wrap up by next summer. The project has taken two years longer than expected and went $1 million over budget because of soft clay that created dangerous conditions for workers. (PH)

2. Going against national trends, a third of Maine towns still count ballots by hand. 150 towns, or about a third of all voting jurisdictions in Maine count ballots by hand. Each of the towns has fewer than 750 registered voters, though the average number of voters among the towns is much lower, at 251. (PH)

5. The New York Yankees won the American League Pennant on Saturday with a 4-1 series win over the Cleveland Guardians. The Los Angeles Dodgers took home the National League Championship Sunday night with a 4-2 series victory against the New York Mets. The Yankees & Dodgers will face off in Game 1 of the World Series on Friday night. The Yankees-Dodgers rivalry is the most common World Series matchup. The teams have met in 12 Fall Classics. (MLB)
