1. Hurricane Melissa will slowly move across Jamaica today. The storm could be the worst hurricane the country has ever seen. As of late Monday, Melissa was a Category 5 hurricane with winds up to 175 miles per hour. The government of Jamaica issued mandatory evacuation orders for six areas on Monday afternoon. (Yahoo)
2. Police say people accidentally looted a condemned store in Lewiston. Officers were called to Goshen Super Market on Lincoln Street after reports that people were taking items, thinking they were free. Lewiston police are now asking anyone who took things to return them to 179 Lincoln Street between noon and 4 p.m. through Friday. (WGME)
3. Graham Platner’s campaign manager has stepped down after less than a week on the job. Kevin Brown, a former adviser to Elizabeth Warren, says he’s leaving after learning he and his wife are expecting a baby. Platner’s campaign has faced multiple setbacks in recent weeks, but Brown called Platner a “dear friend” and said the decision was entirely personal. (PH)
4. The latest Tesla recall has impacted more than 3.8 million vehicles due to a faulty autopilot system. Recalled Teslas include the Model S, Model X, Model 3, and Model Y vehicles manufactured between 2012 and 2023. Federal regulators found the system’s controls faulty, increasing crash risks. 5. Doritos has dropped a new Gingerbread flavor in the UK, but Americans can order bags of the sweet and warmly spiced chips online.
