1. A new ABC News/Washington Post poll shows that in a head-to-head 2024 matchup, 51% of U.S. adults would vote for former President Donald Trump, while 42% would vote to re-elect President Joe Biden. This comes as Biden’s approval rating on issues like immigration and the economy is in decline. (JN)
2. The federal government will run out of operating funds this weekend if Congress doesn’t agree to a deal. More than 11,000 federal workers in Maine would be furloughed or expected to work without pay. Food assistance for roughly 18,000 women and children would be jeopardized. And Acadia National Park could close its gates at the height of foliage season. Lawmakers are scheduled to return to D.C. today to resume negotiations over the federal budget. (PH)
3. The Maine Warden Service says a 15-year-old boy was rescued Sunday after he fell 60 feet down Tumbledown Mountain and broke his leg. Rescue crews hiked up over a mile to reach where the boy had fallen. They made the decision to fly the boy away from the mountain due to the severity of his injuries. (WGME)
4. While yesterday was National Lobster Day, locally this is Maine Lobster Week. Dozens of restaurants are offering special menu options or prices, similar to Maine Restaurant Week. Gov. Janet Mills wrote on X “Every day is great for lobster, but National Lobster Day is an especially great day to grab a lobster roll and support the hardworking men and women of Maine’s lobster industry.” (WMTW)
5. People who make more $600 on ticket resales will be taxed, according to the Internal Revenue Service. In line with the new law companies such as Ticketmaster and StubHub will have to report if customers sold more than $600 in resale tickets in 2023. Previously companies would only send out 1099s to those who made more than $20,000 in 200 or more transactions. (NME)
