1. Gas prices have jumped to $3.22 a gallon, up 7 cents since Thursday and 30 cents higher than last week’s average, as the ongoing military conflict in Iran continues to push fuel costs higher nationwide. AAA says the spike is tied to concerns about global oil supply. (WGME)

2. More than 1,500 women gathered at Willard Beach in South Portland to celebrate International Women’s Day with the annual Women’s Wave, running hand-in-hand into the 37-degree Atlantic. (PH)

3. Lawrence star Maddie Provost and Camden Hills standout Nolan Ames are Maine’s new Miss and Mr. Basketball. Provost led Lawrence to another state title and will play at Holy Cross next year, while Ames powered Camden Hills to the Class A boys final. (PH)

4. Portland’s Hearts of Pine are exploring a women’s soccer team that could launch in 2027. Club leaders held a town hall this weekend to gather community input, with hopes of creating Maine’s first pre-professional women’s sports team. (NCM)

5. Former President Obama has announced the opening date for the long-awaited Obama Presidential Center. The massive campus on Chicago’s South Side will open to the public on June 19th, aligning with Juneteenth. The site will feature a museum, public art, green space, and even a basketball court. Obama says the center isn’t meant to be a monument to the past, but a living hub to inspire the next generation of changemakers in the same neighborhood where he began his career. (TH)
