Today for If You Can Hear Her, You Can Be Her, I spoke with Morgan Sewall Smith, an ice skating choreographer and coach from Maine!
Morgan shared how her journey began at just six years old, eventually leading her to compete nationally and skate professionally, including performing on cruise ships with Royal Caribbean. While those experiences brought exciting opportunities, she found her true passion in coaching and choreographing for the next generation of skaters!
Through her work, Morgan has discovered how rewarding it is to watch her students grow, not just as athletes, but in their confidence and self-expression. She emphasized that skating, like many pursuits, comes with challenges, but embracing those challenges is key to progress.
For those interested in getting started, Morgan highlighted local opportunities like the North Atlantic Figure Skating Club, as well as rinks such as Family Ice Center and Cape Community Arena. She encouraged aspiring skaters to take advantage of these resources and not be afraid to step onto the ice!
Morgan also pointed to current Olympic skaters Amber Glenn and Alyssa Liu as powerful examples of dedication and positivity within the sport today.
Her message to young women is to embrace the journey, stay committed, and not shy away from challenges, because that is where growth happens.
