1. A Portland man who ICE admits was mistakenly deported to Guatemala is expected to return to Maine next week at the federal government’s expense. Court records say ICE confused the 31-year-old with another man who had the same first name and birthday, deporting him despite a judge’s order blocking his removal from the country. (PH)

2. The family of 12-year-old Brayden Callahan says its focus is now on holding RSU 13 accountable after prosecutors agreed to drop a manslaughter charge against the former school bus driver in exchange for a civil traffic violation. Brayden was killed last November after getting off his school bus and being struck while trying to cross the road. Rockland’s police chief says he believes criminal charges were justified, and a court hearing is scheduled for August 11. (WGME)

3. The southbound I-295 on-ramp from Washington Avenue at Tukey’s Bridge in Portland was closed this morning because of an active police investigation. Authorities haven’t yet said what was being investigated but crime tape was spotted. (WGME)

4. Two people were seriously injured after a pickup truck crashed into two utility poles, an SUV and then slammed into a Lisbon Falls business Wednesday morning. Police say the pickup driver is in critical condition, the SUV driver suffered serious injuries, and no one inside the screen-printing business was hurt despite significant damage to the building. 5. More sharks are being spotted off the Maine coast. Scarborough police say a drone operator spotted five to seven sharks feeding near Pine Point on Wednesday, one day after two juvenile great white sharks were seen in the same area. The New England Aquarium says it’s now peak shark season and is urging beachgoers to stay away from seals and schools of fish while in the water. (WGME)
