1. A man accused of multiple gunpoint carjackings in Portland was shot and killed by police outside the Casco Bay Lines terminal. Police say 37-year-old Jacob Hastings ignored commands to surrender and reached toward his waistband as if he had a gun. A firearm was later found in one of the stolen vehicles. (WGME)

2. Governor Janet Mills is taking aim at President Trump’s trade war with Canada. In a letter published in the Toronto Star, Mills said the tariffs are raising costs and hurting jobs on both sides of the border, writing, “This is no way to treat an ally.” She’s calling on Washington to end the dispute before new Canadian retaliatory tariffs take effect September 8th. 3. The estimated cost to fully repair York’s storm-damaged Cliff Walk has jumped from about $1 million to $5.8 million. Engineers found more damage than expected, while difficult access is also driving up costs. Town officials are now considering a partial repair for just under $1 million. (PH)

4. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is expanding to Somerset County. The program mails a free book every month to enrolled children from birth through age five, with an anonymous donor funding the local effort. Organizers hope to have it up and running by the end of the year. (WGME)

5. Hundreds of students moved into University of New England dorms in Biddeford Sunday. The school welcomed new students with food, music, games and giveaways. Classes begin Wednesday, September 2nd. (WGME)
