1. Portland firefighters quickly put out a roof fire at Portland Pier Wednesday night. Crews were called to 5 Portland Pier just after 9 p.m. and had the fire out within about 20 minutes. No one was injured, and the cause remains under investigation. (WMTW)

2. A toxic phytoplankton bloom is believed to be killing lobsters and clams in parts of Casco Bay. The bloom has been detected from Portland Harbor to Harpswell and can kill marine life by depleting oxygen in the water. Maine officials say it does not pose a threat to humans or make live seafood unsafe to eat. (WGME)

3. Two pillars of light are shining above Mount Washington this week to mark the 25th anniversary of 9/11. The tribute honors those killed in the attacks, along with first responders and military members, and could be visible from as far as 135 miles away. 4. The U.S. just recorded its hottest summer on record, with the national average temperature hitting 74.4 degrees between June and August. August also set a record for heat, while drought conditions expanded to cover more than 59% of the country. (CBS)

5. Apple has officially unveiled its first foldable iPhone, called the iPhone Duo. The passport-sized phone opens to a 7.6-inch display, starts at $1,999 and Apple says it’s the thinnest iPhone ever when unfolded. It also supports the Apple Pencil and uses Touch ID instead of Face ID. Preorders begin October 16th, with the iPhone Duo hitting stores October 23rd. (CNET)
