1. Microsoft revealed Tuesday it uncovered and took down fake versions of six websites, including some dealing with public policy and the U.S. Senate. The sites were meant to enable hackers to secretly access the computers of visitors. Microsoft says the operation was done by a group publicly linked to a Russian intelligence agency and that group actively interfered in the 2016 U.S. presidential election. (NewsCenterMaine)

2. The largest and newest dormitory at Southern Maine Community College will remain closed well into September, displacing 320 students as school officials address a sudden mold infestation at the start of the fall semester. Spring Point hall will be closed for three to four weeks while workers from Servpro, a fire and water cleanup company, remove all mold from the 10-year-old building, SMCC President Joseph Cassidy said Monday. The work is scheduled to begin today. The 260 students expected to arrive Friday for “move-in day” – three days before classes startnext Monday – will be housed in local hotels on bus routes leading to SMCC until the residence hall reopens. 3. Kennebunkport police say two people are being treated for rabies. Police say a resident took in an injured raccoon and was bitten several times. Police say a responding game warden was also bitten while trying to move what they call an “illegally housed wild animal.” Police say this is a reminder to never let a wild animal in your home, and to contact wardens about any injured animal. 4. Forget about apples, it looks like a few strawberries a day could keep the doctor away. UPI reports that a new scientific study finds that eating strawberries could reduce effects of inflammation of the colon. These effects include severe diarrhea and fatigue. The study was conducted in mice by researchers at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Their results were presented Monday at the 256th National Meeting & Exposition of the American Chemical Society in Boston. “The sedentary lifestyle and dietary habits of many people in this country–high-sugar, high-animal fat, but low-fiber diets–may promote colonic inflammation and increase the risk,” said study leader Dr. Hang Xiao. Consumption of fruits and vegetables has been linked with lower Inflammatory Bowel Disease risk. (UPI)
