1. The stay-at-home order for the city of Portland has been extended until April 27. The city is requesting landlords forgive missed rent payments by tenants who have lost their income due to the coronavirus. Portland residents will still be able to go to the doctor and get groceries. All non-essential businesses must remain closed or face a $500 fine. (WGME)
2. Three people have died in Maine due to the coronavirus, and there are now 275 cases in the state as of Monday. That’s up from 253 cases on Sunday. 43 are healthcare workers. 49 people have been hospitalized at some point during their illness and 41 people have recovered. There have been 6,088 negative tests. 3. Abbott’s Scarborough Laboratory helped design and is manufacturing a new COVID-19 test that will give results in minutes. They will start producing the tests this week, with a capacity to do 50,000 tests per day. Tests will be immediately shipped to coronavirus hotspots such as New York and Michigan. (PRESS HERALD)
4. The NCAA ruled Monday to grant an extra year of eligibility to all college athletes in spring sports who lost their seasons because of the coronavirus. Sports affected include baseball, softball, lacrosse, tennis, golf, track and field, rowing, men’s volleyball, beach volleyball and women’s water polo. (ESPN)
5. A new dating site, Quarantine Together, asks users at 6 p.m. if they’ve washed their hands. If they answer yes, they are then connected to another user for text chat. After 15 minutes of text chat, they can move to video chat. “There are no rejections,” said the developer. “It’s less about your photo or your bio, it’s more about actually being able to talk to another person.” (UPI)
