1. As of Thursday morning the US coronavirus cases are nearly at 640,000 w/ the death toll close to 31,000. CDC director Dr. Robert Redfield said that the U.S. should brace for a second wave of the coronavirus to hit in 2021. He also said that the U.S. needs to ramp up testing capacity immediately. (NY POST)

2. Four more Mainers have died from coronavirus-related complications, bringing the total to 24. There have been 770 coronavirus cases reported in 15 Maine counties as of Wednesday. 126 people have been hospitalized at some point during their illness and 305 people have recovered. There have been 14,076 negative tests statewide. (WGME)

3. The investigation into the explosion that destroyed part of the Androscoggin Mill in Jay is expected to continue today. A large amount of debris and pulp fell from the sky after the explosion on Wednesday. Jay’s fire chief says residents should not touch the debris until the DEP can determine if it’s safe to do so. Thankfully, no one was hurt in the explosion. (WGME)

4. Baxter State Park has shut down camping and traffic. The park’s two gates are closed and only walk-in day hikes will be allowed – likely until at least July 1. (PRESS HERALD)

5. With school buildings closed for the rest of the school year – and spring sports, proms and clubs canceled as well – districts across Maine are trying to figure out how to handle graduation ceremonies for the class of 2020. The Portland school district plans to hold an in-person high school graduation ceremony the first week of August if possible. (PRESS HERALD)
