1. President Trump’s campaign broke Facebook and Twitter’s rules by spreading coronavirus misinformation. Facebook removed a post, while Twitter required that they delete a video before being allowed to tweet again. In the video, Trump said that kids are “almost immune from this disease.” Health experts say that is false.
2. Joe Biden will not travel to Milwaukee to accept the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination at the DNC and will instead formally accept it from his home state of Delaware.
3. The U.S. tops 4.8 million coronavirus cases w/ over 158,000 deaths. The Maine CDC reported 17 new cases on Wednesday and one new coronavirus-related death. The statewide death toll is 124 with 412 active cases. Gov. Janet Mills has extended Maine’s State of Civil Emergency for another 30 days.
4. The South Portland Board of Education approved a plan for the reopening of schools in their district. Students will be split into groups going into school on alternating days two days a week and continue remote learning the other three. The school year in South Portland is slated to begin on Sept. 8.
5. Instagram on Wednesday launched Reels, a 15-second video editing and sharing feature similar to TikTok. This comes after President Trump said he would ban the Chinese-owned TikTok app by September 15 due to security concerns unless it is purchased by an American company.
