2. The U.S. tops 29.5 million covid-19 cases with more than 534,000 related deaths. The Maine CDC reported no new deaths and 170 new cases on Sunday keeping Maine’s death toll at 724 with 77 Mainers currently hospitalized. Over 25% of Mainers have received at least the first dose of a covid vaccine. (WMTW)
3. Gov. Janet Mills announced an accelerated timeline Friday to make all adult Mainers eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine by May 1. Under the new timeline, those 50 and older will still be eligible by April 1, then all adult Maine residents by May 1. A new mass vaccination site will open at the Auburn Mall on Wednesday. (WMTW)
4. Updated community and sports guidelines issued Friday means there will be a more traditional high school spring sports season including playoffs. Last spring, the entire sports season was cancelled, and fall and winter sports seasons this school year have ended without traditional state-wide tournaments. (WMTW)
5. Drew Brees, the NFL’s leader in career completions and yards passing, has decided to retire after 20 NFL seasons, including his last 15 with the New Orleans Saints.
