1. During the Nationals vs. Padres game Saturday gunfire could be heard in the 6th inning. Fans, players, and workers didn’t know where the shots were coming from. Gunfire was exchanged between people in two cars outside of the stadium. The sound echoed inside. Three people were injured. No one in the stadium was hurt. The game was suspended after the incident. 2. Two South African soccer players became the first athletes inside the Olympic Village to test positive for COVID-19, and other cases connected to the Tokyo Games were also confirmed Sunday. IOC president said last week there was “zero” risk of athletes passing on the virus to Japanese or other residents of the village. The Olympics are set to officially open on Friday and run until Aug. 8. (WMTW)
3. Crews were battling an all-hands fire at Joseph’s by the Sea restaurant in Old Orchard Beach early this morning. There was heavy fire coming from one side of the building. (WMTW)
4. Maine is home to a new law that extends family medical leave protections to some grandparents. The law change “allows working grandparents to take a limited amount of time to provide care to their grandchild without the fear of losing their position.” (WGME)
5. The Tri for a Cure to benefit the Maine Cancer Foundation wrapped up on Sunday with a 5K at SMCC. This year’s event topped its $1 million fundraising goal. Athletes, either individually, or as a team, swim a third of a mile, bike 15 miles and run 3.1 miles. (WMTW)
