1. The number of COVID-19 patients hospitalized in Maine climbed to 249, a new record on Sunday.
2. As of Saturday, 10,033 children ages 5 to 11 have received at least their first vaccine dose in Maine just two weeks after its rollout for the group. The clinical trial for the Pfizer vaccine showed that the vaccine is over 90% effective for children aged 5-11 in preventing severe disease from the COVID-19 virus.
3. The University of Maine has issued an alert about an assault on the Orono campus. A woman reported that a man grabbed her from behind, threatened her with an unknown object, pushed her to the ground, and then ran off. The suspect is described as about 6 ft. tall and wearing dark clothing and gloves.
4. Starting today, Mainers who worked through the pandemic will start seeing checks for $285. Governor Janet Mills says 524,754 Mainers are eligible, meaning they lived full-time in Maine, earned wages in the 2020 tax year, and reported that income on a tax return by the end of October.
