1. Today is Primary Day in Maine. The biggest race is the Republican primary between Bruce Poliquin and Liz Caruso. Both are hoping to take on Rep. Jared Golden in November’s General Election. Many people are also closely watching the race for DA in Cumberland County, which is the most expensive DA race in Maine’s history.
2. For the second time in within a week, there was an active fire at an elementary school in Bath. Authorities arrested a local man and charged him for arson in a Friday night fire. Monday morning’s fire at Dike Newell Primary School in Bath broke through the roof of the large classroom building. State fire investigators determined the cause of the fire was a flare up from the arson set Friday night.
3. Maine Veterinary Hospital in Scarborough has received thousands of angry and threatening messages after a news story went viral. A puppy needed emergency surgery but the pet owner didn’t have the $10,000 needed to cover the cost of the surgery. Unable to get a bank loan, the owner elected to surrender the puppy to save him from being euthanized. He was quickly placed in a new home with a family that paid for the surgery, and is recovering. The original owner said that she had called the veterinary hospital just a few hours later, having raised enough money to pay for his surgery, but that she was told the surrender was final and Jaxx was gone.
4. The Golden State Warriors are one win away from another title after beating the Boston Celtics in San Francisco on Monday night, 104-94.
