Good at flirting? You may have “rizz”, Oxford University Press’ word of the year. Rizz is slang for “romantic appeal or charm”; used mainly by Generation Z. The word is hashtagged billions of times on TikTok. It’s thought to be short for “charisma”.
Tom Hanks showcased his trendy side during his appearance on BBC’s The One Show. When asked about the term “rizz,” Hanks responded, “If you claim to have rizz, you don’t have rizz. It’s gotta be placed upon you.” George Clooney and Callum Turner, also present on the show, concurred, emphasizing that having charisma is something acknowledged by others, not self-proclaimed.
Hanks continued to elaborate on the concept, stating, “If you make that statement, then you clearly have rizz.” Clooney humorously added, “Once you’ve said it, you’re literally the poster child for rizz.”
